A recent upgrade from Telegram promises better calls with a redesigned design that consumes less battery life. Along with these improvements, the update adds new animations and upgrades to the app's bot platform.
According to the corporation, calls have been updated with dynamic backdrops that alter according to whether the call is ringing, active, or finished. Because it uses less resources than its predecessor, the new interface saves battery life and performs better on older hardware. The call quality has also been improved with the update. According to Telegram, additional connection and audio quality enhancements will be introduced in 2024.
Updates to Telegram's bot platform, which enables developers to incorporate services into the Telegram ecosystem, are also being released. Bots can now reply to other chats or subjects, handle quotes and links, respond to messages, and do a lot more. In channels where they hold admin positions, bots can also obtain information regarding giveaways and boosts.
Furthermore, Telegram is making its vaporization animation available to users of iOS and Android after first testing it with a small group of users. The new effect, which appears anytime a message is deleted, is meant to provide some entertainment value to the program.
The new capabilities are being released one month after Telegram revealed channel enhancements, reaction emoji customization, and story data to better rival WhatsApp, which made its broadcast channel features available to all users in September 2023. Even though Telegram has been around for a while, the app needs to continue to innovate to stay competitive with WhatsApp.
In a recent broadcast on his WhatsApp broadcast channel, CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg announced that the feature has surpassed 500 million monthly active users. To put things in perspective, Telegram boasts over 800 million monthly active users, whereas WhatsApp has over 2 billion monthly active users.
