After releasing its Quest 3 headset, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META) has chosen to permanently lower the cost of its Quest 2 headset by $50.
The pricing of the 128GB version has been lowered from $299 to $249, and that of the 256GB version is now $299 instead of $349. These new rates, which were first observed during the Black Friday deals, are now set in stone, according to TechCrunch.
Meta is cutting the cost of a few Quest 2 accessories in addition to the headset. The battery-operated Quest 2 Elite Strap was previously priced at $119.99, but is now only $89.99.
The normal Quest 2 Elite Strap was previously priced at $59.99, but Meta reduced it to $49.99. Other accessories include the Fit Pack, Active Pack, and Quest 2 Carrying Case, which are all on sale for $39.99, $59.99, and $44.99, respectively.
Sales of Quest's virtual reality headsets are down amid this busy holiday shopping season. The reluctance of consumers to try on headsets in stores is a major contributing element to this trend.
Shoppers avoided these headsets in especially during the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak since they were known to gather dirt and perhaps interfere with makeup.
Many clients remained cautious despite Meta's efforts to clean them on a frequent basis.
Prior to this, in July 2022, Meta raised the cost of the Quest 2 headset from $299.99 to $399.99 by $100.
But Meta reduced the price of the Quest 2 to $299.99 in June, coinciding with the release of the Quest 3, probably in an attempt to boost sales.
Roblox Corp. (NYSE: RBLX) was added to the Quest headset through the Meta Quest Store last year, which strengthened the already large library of over 500 games available on Meta's VR platform.
By lowering the cost of the Quest 2, Meta hopes to draw in customers by positioning it as a less expensive option to the $500 Quest 3.
Price Action: On Tuesday, the most recent check, META shares were down 1.31% at $349.31.
